First-Time Homebuyer Mistakes

October 6, 2009 | Leave a Comment

According to Realtor Magazine, there are 5 common first-time homebuyer mistakes that are commonly made when purchasing a home.

  1. Asking enough questions. First-time homebuyers usually don’t know enough about the home buying process to ask the right questions. They sometimes end up missing out on great deals because they don’t have all the pertinent information from lenders.
  2. Acting quickly enough on that “perfect” house. In a buyer’s market you must act fast if you want the house. This involves the “right” offer and doing your homework before the offer is made, i.e. pre-approval letter and making sure your credit is good.
  3. Finding the right real estate agent who is looking out for their best interests who will guide them through the details of the home buying process.
  4. Making an appealing offer to sellers.
  5. Thinking ahead as to how long they will stay in the home or considering re-sale value later on.
