Open Houses

October 6, 2009 | Leave a Comment

The National Association of Realtors shows that 9 out of 10 buyers now search for houses on the internet, although open houses still remain a valuable tool in the home search process. Open houses allow potential buyers to see how a house feels, smells, sounds and allows them the opportunity to picture themselves in it…or not. Open houses also give people the opportunity to browse through a house with no pressure. NAR statistics show that since 2001, the number of buyers who found a house from a yard sign or open house was about 15%, in 2006 47% of buyers used open houses as an information source in their home search. In 2008, the number was 48%.

If you’re planning on hosting an open house –

  • Clean and make the home smell good
  • Clear out the clutter, pets or any extra cars in the driveway
  • Drawback the curtains, open the blinds and let the light in
  • Cut the grass and add some colorful flowers to planter boxes or yard
