Great article from USAA magazine…

Acting now to protect your pipes can save you lots of time—and money! Protecting your pipes from winter weather is one of the easiest ways to prevent costly water damage. You don’t want to wait til there’s a problem-then it might be too late. Plus, fall is the perfect time to be outdoors.  Here are some great tips to help you “Beat the Freeze”

  • Use caulk or insulation to seal cracks, holes and other openings on exterior walls.
  • Leave cabinet doors open or use a fan to increase warm air circulation around pipes.
  • Before extreme weather hits 20 degrees Fahrenheit let faucets drip to prevent freezing.
  • Add pipe insulation which can be found at  your local hardware store. Expect to pay $15 to protect each hose bib and $25-50 to insulate pipes in crawl spaces.
